In 1986 Barry had returned to Sydney after spending a season as Promoter of Northline Speedway in Darwin. He purchased a sprintcar with a JSR chassis but soon replaced this with a Ray Alach-built Gambler chassis and transferred the running gear. He ran the car in Sydney in white livery as #12. This car was shipped back to Auckland and was raced as #21 in red livery during most of the 1986-87 season.
